Let Your Holiday Skin Glow

Before you can start and create a wonderful look for the upcoming holiday parties, you need to have a good base on your face. Have you ever experienced that your skin was dry, and once you applied makeup, it looked flaky? We definitely want to avoid this! I like to say that your skin is for you what a canvas is for a painter. When it’s clean and firm, it’s the perfect foundation for a really good looking and long-lasting makeup look. So here are a few skin care secrets for an impeccable look (and in general for good skin throughout the year!):

1 Cleanse well!

Skin full of dirt, bacteria, and makeup leftovers is like a dirty canvas. Make sure your skin is clean, before you start with your makeup. Use a mild cleanser, or wash your face with warm water to remove sweat, dirt, and bacteria. Warm water is helpful to open the pores and cleanse really deeply.

2 Use a toner (no alcohol!)

Toners close the open pores, and prevent dirt and makeup from going deep into your skin. Toners are astringent, and can help your pores get smaller. When the skin is moist, it can absorb the following products easily, so the toner will eventually help you moisturize your skin better.

3 Moisturize well

Use a moisturizer that absorbs well and quickly. You don’t want to wait 20 minutes, before you can start creating your makeup, right?

EXPERT TIP:

I recommend not to do scrubs or masks before you create a makeup look. It might irritate your skin and evoke redness. If you want to pluck your eyebrows, please make sure you do that the night before, as it might cause redness around your eyebrows.

DOES FOOD INFLUENCE YOUR SKIN?

Especially during the holidays, we’re tempted to eat more than normal, and in particular more sugar. This might have an impact on your skin and result in pimples, impurities, or dryness. Make sure you pay close attention to how your body feels before you overindulge. Are you still hungry are is it just because everyone else is still eating? Listen to your gut (literally!!), your body always knows what’s best for you.

HYDRATE WELL!

Don’t forget about water. Our bodies are made of about 70% water, our brain is about 90% water! That’s quite a lot, right? Hydration is one of the most important health and beauty secrets ever! The winter months have definitely begun, and we tend to dryer skin anyway. Alcohol, sugar, and lots of greasy food won’t make your skin’s life easier! I love to drink a glass of water (or even two!) with every glass of wine or champaign and always have my VitaJuwel water bottle with me wherever I go (a special glass bottle I recently got myself that holds 500ml and also has some gemstones in it to neutralize and energize the water. Can highly recommend it!).

GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP!

The power and importance of sleep is heavily undervalued! While we sleep, the body works on detoxing, renewing, and rejuvenating. This is super important for the skin! Ideally, you should get between seven and eight hours of sleep every night. This will allow your body to renew your skin cells and will make you wake up with fresh and beautiful skin. Now this is a general rule, but since in December, people are often very busy because of end of year work, all the events, and making sure they have all the presents, maybe you even need a bit more sleep this month.
