The Mind-Body Connection: Feeling Healthy & Free Through Mindful Movement

I have learned so much about health in the past 7+ years since I got certified as a Holistic Health Coach. One of the things that always fascinates me is how powerful our health habits are that are completely unrelated to what we eat or how many times we go to the gym.

Most people think that health = food + gym. No sugar, no coffee, more veggies, less meat, etc and burning calories at the gym. This is all definitely important, however, there are other categories of health that have a huge impact on our wellbeing.

Happiness Hormones for Your Health

The mind-body connection plays an important role in our overall wellbeing, linking physical movements to mental and emotional health in profound ways. Dance, a form of physical activity that engages both the body and the mind, is a great example for this connection.

When you dance, your body releases endorphins in the brain, which are hormones that are considered natural mood lifters, which can help in reducing stress and anxiety. This type of physical movement stimulates the brain's reward centers, leading you to feel joyful and satisfied. As you move your body to the rhythm of the music, you not only improve your physical fitness, but also let yourself express your emotions through the movement, contributing to a sense of freedom and overall wellbeing.

Expressing Your Emotions Through Dance

Free-flow dance is also a powerful tool to process and express your emotions. As you move your body to the music, you get to energetically process and release what feels heavy on you. This emotional release can help in managing feelings of sadness, anger, overwhelm, or frustration, and you can end your dance session feeling renewed and refreshed, not just in your body, but also in your mind.

When practiced regularly, you may find yourself feeling more resilient and less irritable, which may make it easier for you to navigate everyday’s life challenges.

Dance as a Social Activity

In addition to the mental and emotional benefits, dance also supports social connections, which are vital for our mental health - more than we may actually think. Dancing with others, even when everyone just dances by themselves, gives us a sense of community and belonging, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness. The shared experience of moving together creates energetic bonds and strengthens our empathy, which helps for our overall wellbeing.

Overall, the mind-body connection through dance not only improves our physical health, but is also extremely beneficial for our mental and emotional health, making it a powerful practice for a beautiful, balanced, and fulfilling life.

Don't Wait for 2023 to Set New Goals

I recently heard someone say "I'm so ready for this year to be over and to start fresh in 2023!". I frowned and asked why. She said how bad this year was for her and how she needed a clean slate. While I can understand that there are seasons that are more challenging than others, a New Year is just a mind game.

3 Simple Tips for a Phone-Free Bedtime Routine

When I work with my busy professional clients, the first thing we look at is usually their sleep. When you're struggling with overwhelm, high levels of stress, and a calendar with little to no time for yourself, we have to first focus on getting your physical energy in a great place. This is where sleep comes in - and as you may very well know, electronics and social media don’t necessarily promote restful sleep.

How to Build a Holistic Health Coaching Business When You Have No Idea How to Run a Business

When I was younger, my dad would always say that we weren't born as "entrepreneurs". I somehow always thought that in order to be an entrepreneur, you had to have a special gene or something... Which luckily I learned isn't true!

Indicators You Aren't Getting Enough Sleep

Indicators You Aren't Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is so underrated. Some people even say "I can sleep when I'm dead!". Lol I definitely do not subscribe to that and I really love a good night sleep! When you wakeup naturally in the morning and you're feeling so well-rested, content, and ready for a new day? It's the best feeling.

How to Eat to Reduce Overwhelm and Stress

How to Eat to Reduce Overwhelm and Stress

Is the majority of your food vibrant? Green? Red? Yellow? Purple? As in spinach, peppers, carrots, strawberries, and pineapple.

Or is it brown, beige, and white...? As in bread, cake, pasta, sandwiches, and processed snacks?

Be mindful of what you put in your body, because it directly impacts your body, your soul, and your emotions. Think about it: what you eat, goes into your stomach, gets digested and becomes your blood, your cells, and other bodily tissue.

7 Indicators That You Are Healthy

7 Indicators That You Are Healthy

Most people think that health is a very complicated topic and we need all kinds of lab tests and doctors visits to find out if we are healthy or not. While lab tests are great, there are some super simple indicators to tell how healthy your body is - without having to go to the doctor (unless you experience severe health issues, then please consult your doctor).

Alarms on Sundays: Do or Don't?

Alarms on Sundays: Do or Don't?

Happy Sunday, beautiful! Let me guess: you set an alarm to wakeup this morning, so you wouldn't waste your time sleeping and resting - because you have so much to do, finish, and accomplish today. And maybe, today was an exception and you didn't set an alarm :) But I've found that 90% of my perfectionist clients wakeup with an alarm on Sundays (and of course Saturdays, too!), because there's just so much to do.

The No. 1 Must Know Relaxation Secret for Busy Perfectionists

My goal in 2015 was to finally figure out meditation that everybody in the self-help books was talking about (and I’ve read ALL of them!).⁣ I started 21-day challenge after challenge and never made it past day 3. I tried this app and that app, but it just never clicked.⁣ It was almost 2017 when I finally figured it out, and meditation has since been a part of my daily practice.

Sick On Vacation? You Clearly Overworked Yourself!

Sick On Vacation? You Clearly Overworked Yourself!

A few years ago, I used to get sick pretty much every time I went on vacation... All I was doing was working. And when I wasn't working, I would still think about work. I was a store manager at Apple and loved my job, the people, my responsibilities. I had put all my heart and soul into work, but had very weak boundaries with myself, and struggled with switching my mind off after work.

When you have a long to do list, it can be challenging to take breaks at times. And you may rush from your bedroom right to your computer and “forget” to eat breakfast. Or skip lunch, because you have to prepare for your next meeting (because you want to be perfectly prepared, right?!).

7 Misconceptions About Being A Successful Woman

Here are some of the things I used to say to myself about being a successful woman in the 21st century... I have to work really hard in order to be successful. What my boss thinks of me is my no. 1 priority at work. My career is more important than my mental and emotional health. I first need to finish work, and then I can meditate.
