3 Ways to Adapt Your Self-Care to Fall

Fall is my favorite season and a beautiful time to get ready to withdraw, tune inwards, and let go. Just like we go through the different seasons of the year, I believe we naturally go through similar rhythms in life, too, and as women, we go through the four seasons during each menstrual cycle as well.

Just like everything in life, everything constantly changes and we need to learn and accept that nothing ever remains the same.

As an example from my own life: Years ago, I had a very consistent daily Yoga practice, and today, I rarely practice Yoga. There's nothing wrong with things changing, the important thing about it is to stay consistent with making time for yourself - regardless of what you do during that time.

Therefore, we also need to remain flexible and adjust our self-care practices as the seasons change. You may want to tune inwards and see if what you're doing still feels good, or if there's something you'd like to adjust.

#1 - Tune Inwards

Fall stands for inward reflections and less active, outgoing energy. It's ok if you don't feel like going to the gym class as much as you did in the summer. And maybe you prefer a short journaling session over a long, guided meditation.

You can ask yourself these two questions:

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy am I with my current self-care routine?

  • What is one thing I can change in my routines, so I can feel more aligned?

#2 - Let go and forgive

This time of year, nature gets ready to withdraw her energy from the leaves and the branches to get centered. Just like the leaves turn orange, yellow, red, and brown every fall, it's a great time to think about what's old, heavy, and needs to go. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you've made over the year (remember: we are not perfect and we all make many mistakes!). Be kind to yourself as you choose to leave those things in the past and move on centering your energy for your own happiness and wellbeing.

You can ask yourself these two questions:

  • What are things, memories, situations, people I need to let go of, so I can feel lighter?

  • What is one thing I want to forgive myself for, so that I can have more peace in my heart?

#3 - Make your home feel comfortable

Typically, October is a month where we start spending more time at home and less time outside. It's worth it to make your home cozy, clean, spacious, beautiful, and comfortable. Decorate your front porch with seasonal flowers and pumpkins, fill up your stock with candles and matches, get your blankets ready for cozy evenings on the couch, and go over the selections of teas you have in your kitchen cabinet.

You can ask yourself these two questions:

  • What feels stagnant and cluttered in my home that I can remove?

  • What kind of energy do I want to feel in my home?

I hope you will enjoy this new season with an adapted self-care routine, some clearing and letting go, and a beautiful, cozy home vibe!
