7 Misconceptions About Being A Successful Woman

Here are some of the things I used to say to myself about being a successful woman in the 21st century...

πŸ™…πŸΌ I have to work really hard in order to be successful

πŸ™…πŸΌ What my boss thinks of me is my no. 1 priority at work

πŸ™…πŸΌ My career is more important than my mental and emotional health

πŸ™…πŸΌ I first need to finish work, and then I can meditate

πŸ™…πŸΌ Once I get promoted and a raise, then I will be happy

πŸ™…πŸΌ There's nothing to celebrate or be proud of if my work isn’t perfect

πŸ™…πŸΌ I need to overdeliver and give at least 120% to achieve my own expectations

Even typing this out gets me feeling anxious and nervous inside...

I really used to live a life like that! So much pressure, and I was so hard on myself!

Work is more important than my health

Is it really?

All I could think about all day every day was work, the next iPhone launch, our team, our NPS (customer rating of our services), and scheduling our team, so their shifts were fair and helped them live a more or less balanced lifestyle.

I prioritized work over my mental and emotional health.

I prioritized work over my family.

I prioritized work over my physical health, fitness, and balanced and nutritious meals.

I thought that was just what I had signed up for. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€” Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.

What if there was another way?

While you totally can continue to believe that these ways of looking at work and success are true - you can also decide that you want to step out of this hamster wheel way of thinking.

Now that doesn’t mean you need to quit your job and start your own thing at all.

It’s only a shift in perception.

A shift in your thoughts.

Think about it: Are you really that productive when you work 12 hours a day without breaks while also constantly getting distracted every time your phone gives you a notification?

Or could you potentially be more efficient if you took regular breaks, left your desk for a nutritious meal in the sun (instead of at your desk!), focused on the blessings in your life, and came back to your desk feeling recharged and energized in your body?

But I can’t, because…

I already hear you saying β€œbut I can’t, because...”.

Well. Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right. (Henry Ford)

You choose. But I think especially now after these intense work-from-home or work-differently kind of months of 2020, it is time to...

Work less and slow down to glow up

Forget about work for a bit and think about you first. Then, once you're recharged, you can go back to work and show up in the best version and energy you can provide.

If you don't have 5 minutes, you don't have a life. True story.
