The Mind-Body Connection: Feeling Healthy & Free Through Mindful Movement

I have learned so much about health in the past 7+ years since I got certified as a Holistic Health Coach. One of the things that always fascinates me is how powerful our health habits are that are completely unrelated to what we eat or how many times we go to the gym.

Most people think that health = food + gym. No sugar, no coffee, more veggies, less meat, etc and burning calories at the gym. This is all definitely important, however, there are other categories of health that have a huge impact on our wellbeing.

Happiness Hormones for Your Health

The mind-body connection plays an important role in our overall wellbeing, linking physical movements to mental and emotional health in profound ways. Dance, a form of physical activity that engages both the body and the mind, is a great example for this connection.

When you dance, your body releases endorphins in the brain, which are hormones that are considered natural mood lifters, which can help in reducing stress and anxiety. This type of physical movement stimulates the brain's reward centers, leading you to feel joyful and satisfied. As you move your body to the rhythm of the music, you not only improve your physical fitness, but also let yourself express your emotions through the movement, contributing to a sense of freedom and overall wellbeing.

Expressing Your Emotions Through Dance

Free-flow dance is also a powerful tool to process and express your emotions. As you move your body to the music, you get to energetically process and release what feels heavy on you. This emotional release can help in managing feelings of sadness, anger, overwhelm, or frustration, and you can end your dance session feeling renewed and refreshed, not just in your body, but also in your mind.

When practiced regularly, you may find yourself feeling more resilient and less irritable, which may make it easier for you to navigate everyday’s life challenges.

Dance as a Social Activity

In addition to the mental and emotional benefits, dance also supports social connections, which are vital for our mental health - more than we may actually think. Dancing with others, even when everyone just dances by themselves, gives us a sense of community and belonging, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness. The shared experience of moving together creates energetic bonds and strengthens our empathy, which helps for our overall wellbeing.

Overall, the mind-body connection through dance not only improves our physical health, but is also extremely beneficial for our mental and emotional health, making it a powerful practice for a beautiful, balanced, and fulfilling life.

How to Build a Holistic Health Coaching Business When You Have No Idea How to Run a Business

When I was younger, my dad would always say that we weren't born as "entrepreneurs". I somehow always thought that in order to be an entrepreneur, you had to have a special gene or something... Which luckily I learned isn't true!

Indicators You Aren't Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is so underrated. Some people even say "I can sleep when I'm dead!". Lol I definitely do not subscribe to that and I really love a good night sleep! When you wakeup naturally in the morning and you're feeling so well-rested, content, and ready for a new day? It's the best feeling.

7 Indicators That You Are Healthy

7 Indicators That You Are Healthy

Most people think that health is a very complicated topic and we need all kinds of lab tests and doctors visits to find out if we are healthy or not. While lab tests are great, there are some super simple indicators to tell how healthy your body is - without having to go to the doctor (unless you experience severe health issues, then please consult your doctor).

The No. 1 Must Know Relaxation Secret for Busy Perfectionists

My goal in 2015 was to finally figure out meditation that everybody in the self-help books was talking about (and I’ve read ALL of them!).⁣ I started 21-day challenge after challenge and never made it past day 3. I tried this app and that app, but it just never clicked.⁣ It was almost 2017 when I finally figured it out, and meditation has since been a part of my daily practice.

Do This Before You Throw Your New Year's Intentions Over Board

While I’m sitting at the pool in the middle of the jungle in Bali, I had to think of something that I shared with my clients in our workshop last month:

Did you know that 92% of New Year's goals fail by January 15th?

That was just last week. This means that most people have already thrown their New Year’s intentions over board. If that’s you, here’s how to readjust your goals to make sure you can create your dreamy glow life this year:

1 - Make Your New Year’s Goals Exciting

Go over your goals and make sure you find them EXCITING! Don’t work on things you feel like you “have to”, because others tell you to, or you force yourself, because you want to please others or receive validation from someone.

Here’s an example: if you want to feel better in your body, look leaner, and have more energy, do it, because YOU want this, not because some beauty standard says you should weigh x kg/lb with your height, or because you want your partner to compliment you.

2 - Take Small Steps Towards Your Goals

Make the action steps so small you can actually achieve them consistently, get first results, and celebrate the small successes.

Here’s an example: If you want to get into a habit of moving your body, don’t go from not moving at all to expecting yourself to work out 5 times a week. Start with simple steps like booking a class a week, or make it a commitment to move your body for 20mins a day including walks.

3 - Set Your Goals Right With S.M.A.R.T Goals

When we set goals, it’s not enough to just say something like “I want to be healthier”. I’ve been using the S.M.A.R.T. goals method for years for myself and with my clients to set goals that are exciting, realistic, and get us into actually taking action. The letters S.M.A.R.T. stand for the following criteria:

S: specific
M: measurable
A: attainable
R: relevant
T: timely

Here’s an example: “just working out more” isn’t a SMART goal. Make it specific. Make sure you can measure it, so you actually know when you can tick it off, make it attainable, choose a relevant goal, and set a time frame to it.

Something that’s important for you to know, beautiful, is that you can always adjust your goals. You can always make them bigger. You can always expect more of yourself. But first, we want to make sure that you set yourself up to win. You want to be on your own team, have your back, and see yourself make progress.

What if this year became the healthiest year of your life yet? Let it sink in. It is 100% possible, and I would love to support you on your journey. You so deserve to live your best life.

Head over to the Work With Me page to find out how we can work together this year.

Survive & Enjoy the Holidays without Overindulging

Survive & Enjoy the Holidays without Overindulging

The holiday season is upon us and though, there is so much to love about this season (the lights, the food, the gifts, the parties!), there also comes a lot of stress along with it. All the sugar, the events and parties, the alcohol, and the family gatherings can be a little overwhelming. And often, when we are overwhelmed and don't have a lot of time, the first thing we forget about is our healthy habits.

Confession: I Screwed Up Last Week!

Last week did NOT go as planned. I wanted to write some inspiring emails, I had lots of calls scheduled with amazing women, I had meetings with my clients. I was going to meet some local influencers and exchange experiences with them. I was going to go boxing to get back on track with my workout. I was going to create this new program that I'm really excited about. I was going to feel just AH-MAA-ZING!

People Think I Never Struggle?!

People Think I Never Struggle?!

I recently had a few women approach me saying that it stresses them out that I always look happy and like I never have issues! LOL so not true :) So I decided to make a post about this and share it with you all here, too. Because YES, I am always happy, but it doesn't mean life is always easy over here either! :) So here's the truth...

3 Ways You're Putting Yourself Last

3 Ways You're Putting Yourself Last

One of the most common confidence issues women have are often the result of a simple daily habit: they put themselves last. They always worry about others first. They always care for everyone else, and often forget about themselves. Where does this come from? Most kids just do whatever the heck they feel like doing. They play the games they want to play in that very moment...

But before I start, I want to wish you A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hopefully you took some time to dream about the past year and also about what you want to reach in this new year! Ok, so now, let’s start with the story! It’s about one of my clients, a woman I know since childhood, but we had totally lost contact for many years. She reached out to me a few months ago, as she had been thinking about increasing her beauty feeling and creating a healthier lifestyle for a while.

What Bali Taught Me About Food And Wellbeing

What Bali Taught Me About Food And Wellbeing

I just came back from two amazing weeks in Bali, where we filmed a social media campaign for Cetaphil, called „The Cetaphil Experience“. It’s a 4 day skin care retreat which educates and empowers women from all over southeast Asia on Skin Confidence. I was the host of the whole experience and lead everyone through fun activities and an interesting program. This is the second time we’re doing this event. Last year, it took place in the Philippines, which was also incredible! (You can watch some videos from last year here!)
