Lack of discipline is the no. 1 reason why most people don't get to their destination.
***Please know that I'm not at all judging anyone here, since I have been there myself many times!***
What exactly does lack of discipline look like?
Take a moment to imagine these situations and see if you ever find yourself in something like that:
You set your alarm 30 minutes earlier to meditate for three days, then stop.
You workout three times a week for a few weeks, then stop.
You have everything ready to read a few pages before sleep, then stop after a week.
You may be wondering: Why is this so hard?
The reason why we don't follow through and stay disciplined enough is because we often mix up our priorities.
We mix them up or we have too many. We know what we want to do, change, or prioritize, but the reality often looks a bit (or completely?) different, because there's just a lot of other stuff to do, so your self-care, your dream, your desire gets put on the back burner.
What’s your priority for 2022?
Let's take a step back and look at your life and health priorities for this year. Which one of these areas of life is your no. 1 focus this year?
These are the nine typical areas of life I help my clients glow up when we work together 1:1 that are relevant for a glowing life. I know you want to select at least three, but I said one for a reason. I know perfectionists can easily get overwhelmed when their lists get too long, and they just end up procrastinating everything that's "supposed to be important" to them! So, back to basics, just pick one!
Once you have selected an area of focus, the key question to help with discipline is why this is so important to you. When you’re truly connected with the deeper reason why you desire to improve something, and that desire comes from a place of love, it will be much easier to follow through than if you set a goal just because you read it in a magazine or saw somebody else do it.
Here’s an example: Your main area of focus is health and wellness. You desire to move your body more, because you’re sitting at your desk all day. Why is it important to you? You know that fresh air and movement helps release the shoulder pain and clear your head. You know that you can concentrate better, and your sleep is also smoother when you workout once or twice a week. Now you have enough reasons to follow through and it comes from a place of self-love and honoring yourself and your health and wellbeing.
How can you cultivate more discipline?
If you are ready to take it up a notch and seriously start transforming this area of life together with a coach (and not stop after a few weeks of "trying"), I would be honored to support you with setting clear goals, making an action plan that works, and holding you accountable to better discipline.
