5 Signs You're a People Pleaser

5 simple indicators that help you determine whether you are a people pleaser

Do any of these five statements sound familiar?

  1. You say “yes” immediately whenever anyone asks for help.

  2. You’re the “go to” person when it comes to quick deadlines.

  3. You’re afraid of saying “no” to your boss, your friends, or your family.

  4. You volunteer to do things even with an already packed schedule.

  5. You feel guilty about taking time for yourself, like self-care.

If at least one of these statements resonate with you, you might be a people pleaser.

Typical people pleaser behaviour

As a people pleaser, you think that you need to go above and beyond for others.

As a people pleaser, you believe that it’s only then that you will "earn" the love and appreciation from them… only to then realize that you still haven't done enough, because you may not get the expected validation.

And even if someone did tell you how amazing you were, the happy feelings would only last for a limited time...

What a people pleaser’s everyday life can look like

I used to say yes to everything, even though I had absolutely no capacity to keep pouring into more things. People would always come to me to ask for help, especially last minute, and of course I was there wanting to help them! I was struggling with saying NO, because I was afraid what others would think of me and also of letting them down, which I didn’t want to ever do! And let’s not even talk about the guilt I was feeling when I had nothing on my schedule and just wanted to spend a Sunday morning in bed…

How to stop people pleasing

I want you to know that you do not have to continue living life like that. It is safe for you to change the way things are (especially if it’s feeling heavy and draining for you!). It is safe for you to put yourself first. 100%. Because when your own cup is full, it will be so much easier and so much more effortless to give from your overflow!

So let me ask you this, beautiful:

What if you pleased yourself first?
What if you gave the love you're so craving to receive from others to yourself first?
What if you made sure YOU are ok and feeling recharged first? Then show up for everyone else with your 100%?

(Hint: if you truly care about them, you would probably agree that they do deserve the best of you!)
